REASONS FOR VISITING BLACKPOOL 2011

2011 will be the most important year for Blackpool with so many new innovations coming to fruition and the largest investment into the town in the last 50 years such as:-

• Our beautiful new Promenade will be finished by July, including the Comedy Carpet across from the Tower onto the new Headland. This headland is one of six new headlands built on the wonderful new Promenade.

• On the Promenade will be the new Tourism Information Office and our much publicised Wedding Chapel.

• Our new Tramway should come on line during June which means that the oldest working tramway in the world will have been modernised fit for the 21st Century. Models of the finished work are now on show at the Solaris centre.

• Nickelodeon Land, costing £10.5 million, will be opening at the Pleasure Beach in April 2011, plus another big, exciting ride.

• Two superb new slides at the Sandcastle Waterpark.

• Merlin Entertainments ( Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Madame Tussauds, Sea Life Centres and much more) have taken over the Tower and are investing another £10 million Included in their plans are a London Dungeon amongst other attractions. For the first time ever there will be free entrance to the Tower, you will only pay for the parts you use, plus upgrading of many of the favourite features.

• Our Louis Tussauds will be upgraded to a Madame Tussauds and ready for this coming season.

• The start of the upgrade of the Winter Gardens, now owned by Blackpool Council.

• Refurbishment of South Pier into a new family entertainment centre.

• The opening of Blackpool Zoo’s Children’s Farm and a new food court will be in the spring.

• New Ice rink opening on Cleveley’s new, award winning Promenade.

• Electrification of the rail line from Blackpool to Preston to enable us to join the national long distance network will commence in 2012.
